PRAIRIELANDS

BLACK HILLS, SOUTH DAKOTA
SOUTHERN MINNESOTA

I’ve always been drawn to empty places. There’s a freedom you feel in the vast, flat territories surrounding the Black Hills of South Dakota. It’s a suggestion of the prehistoric; tent rocks carved by wind and water over vast stretches of time. Because everything is spread out and there’s room to breathe and dream, everything in the landscape sits in a different way there.

This is from a series that I’m currently developing on the mystique of the Midwestern prairies and the relics that are found there.
